Welcome to SDAD's History

The South Dakota Association of the Deaf, Inc., (SDAD) was established in 1900, and then incorporated under the laws of the State of SD on July 1, 1910.  Since the inception, SDAD has been fighting, advocating and promoting for equal rights of deaf and hard of hearing individuals.  SDAD has faced and addressed many challenges.  SDAD has created many positive impacts in areas of communication, social, education, employment, mental health, technology, telecommunications, senior living and support and youth development.  SDAD continues to address those issues due the people don’t have good knowledge of our cherished language (American Sign Language), our rich deaf culture and our needs.
