1916— Tough Loss
In March 1916, the SDSD boys faced the Methodist Boy Scouts in Sioux Falls and were overwhelmed, losing 53–9.
1921 — Basketball in the YMCA Leagues
During the 1920–21 school year, SDSD boys competed in organized Sioux Falls YMCA basketball leagues rather than only against other high schools. The school fielded multiple teams that played church, community, and local teams. The Deaf Mutes' senior team had a successful season, advancing to the YMCA league championship game in April 1921 before losing to the Senior Baracas, 31–22..
1923 — Competing in Local Leagues
SDSD continued to compete in organized Sioux Falls basketball leagues while also playing teams from nearby communities. The school fielded both regular and junior teams. Against Rowena, the regular team lost 20–16 and later 25–22, while the junior team won both of its games, 14–7 and 12–10. An SDSD team known as the B-Squares also advanced to the finals of the Sioux Falls city league in March 1923.
